Adam had driven to Gloucester that morning with his father-in-law. He'd walked around the deck of the Andrea Gail for a long time, not saying very much. Then finally he had got off the boat and gone back to his father-in-law's car.

"Are you going to tell them what you think?" he asked.

Adam thought for a while.

"No, he said at last. "I can't do that. I can't tell them that they are going to die.. And maybe I'm wrong. Each man has to make up his own mind about a fishing trip.
